The Y12 Weather Modification Aircraft Task System

FARAVIC’s Y-12 Weather Modification Aircraft Task System uses a distributed architecture, leveraging FARAVIC’s products to comprehensively integrate airborne power distribution, atmospheric detection, cloud seeding, cabin networking, and air-ground communication. The atmospheric detection component integrates various probes from SPEC and other domestic Chinese manufacturers.

The system consists of task system integration software and supporting hardware. The task system integration software manages all system data, enabling human-computer interaction and overall operational control. The hardware components include Airborne Intelligent Power Distribution Equipment, Airborne Probe Integrated Equipment, Airborne Cloud Seeding Device, Airborne Gigabit Switch, and an Airborne Computer, all efficiently interconnected via a cabin local area network (LAN).

The Y-12 Weather Modification Aircraft Task System integrates the two core functions of meteorological detection and cloud seeding. By leveraging the BeiDou system’s capabilities for positioning, timing, and short message communication, it enables the ground command center to monitor the aircraft’s position in real-time and facilitates the exchange of short messages between the air and ground.

The software component includes airborne integration software and ground surveillance&command software.

The airborne integration software is responsible for the cloud seeding control and status display for weather modification operations, control of meteorological detection equipment, centralized display of detection data and equipment status, control and status monitoring of the intelligent power distribution system, as well as the recording and storage of airborne system data.

The ground surveillance software is responsible for monitoring the aircraft’s position and for data recording and storage. It also collaborates with the airborne integration software to enable the exchange of short messages between the air and ground.

Currently, the system is deployed and in use on the Y-12 Weather Modification Aircraft for Cloud Seeding in Liaoning and Shanxi.
